Lawrence Group partnered with Oula Health, a modern modern maternity center that seeks to prioritize patient comfort and healthcare equity, to provide architectural services for their first Manhattan location.

With intentions to scale their practice, LG began the initial stages of a Conceptual Prototype using the Manhattan location to improve on efficiencies that were missing in their Brooklyn locations.

In creating the space, there were three drivers that dictated all our decisions. We wanted the space to be:

Empowering- a supportive, intuitive experience that inspires trust and confidence during a period of growth

Intentional - creation of warm, intimate, and purposeful moments that celebrate the meaningful journey towards new life

Enveloping- an inclusive and immersive community, providing support through grounding and holistic care

With budget and timeline being a concern, we worked to conserve most of the existing interior, selectively choosing where to add an intervention that would showcase and create a welcoming and inclusive maternity center.

We developed options that explored different patient experiences and provider efficiencies. Another driving factor for the architectural layout was providing a flex space that could be used for community events, as well as staff when they were not seeing patients.
