Mecox Bay Estate - Historic Tower

Client: Private

Location: Water Mill, New York

Size: 450 SF

Role: Junior Project Manager

The historic tower on the Mecox Bay Estate MR Architecture was contracted to re-design originally ran 5 stories high, with a pull down ladder that gave access to a rooftop view across the entire estate and bay. Years of disuse caused the interiors to deteriorate, but upon stripping the finishings, revealed a beautiful cross-beam structure that wound up the entire tower.

Beautiful in its simplicity, MR Architecture’s design proposal honors the existing structure, while re-purposing the tower function to be a library bar to be used in conjunction with the walled garden adjacent.

The proposed design utilizes the existing crossbeams to guide the patterning of the black shou sugi ban wood which would clad the entire interior. An industrial-styled bar with window seating at the ground level sits adjacent to the landing of a grand perforated metal staircase that leads to a new rooftop deck.

I was involved in all phases of Schematic Design and and Design Development— from mood board and finish selections to the creation of the 2D drawings for bid set and construction mock-ups.
